French prison drama Un prophète (The Prophet) won nine César Awards in Paris last night, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
The film’s star, Tahar Rahim, won the César for Best Actor and Best Male Newcomer. Rahim plays a young and naïve petty criminal entering prison who is forced to murder for the Corsican mob.
Un prophète won the Grand Prix at Cannes last May, a BAFTA Award last week and is competing for Best Foreign Feature at next weekend’s Oscars.
The film opened Friday in NYC and LA. More cities in the coming weeks.
